A typical conventional tank model has metal venting off the top of the tank and connects to a chimney or metal vent that goes through the roof. These units will generally cost between $2200-$2600 installed, depending on size (40-60 gallons).

A power vent model has a motor on top that connects to plastic venting and exhaust out the side of your home. These units will typically cost between $3200-$3700 installed for 40–60 gallon tanks. It’s important to note that any Power Vent model older than 15 years will likely require the plastic venting to be replaced.

How Much Do Tankless Water Heaters Cost?

Tankless Water Heaters have advantages over traditional storage units, such as requiring less space and supplying more hot water, but they come at an increased cost.

An installation for a Tankless unit usually requires a relocation of gas and water pipes, as well as different venting requirements.

Tankless units come in different capacity ranges instead of storage sizes (40-gallon, 50-gallon etc.). Tankless Water Heaters are rated by how much hot water they can consistently produce, which is stated as gallons per minute (GPM). The more GPM a tank can deliver, the more bathrooms and sinks it can serve.

A home with only one shower will require a lower GPM unit than a home with 3 showers. The average cost for a new Tankless Water heater will range from $4000-$5000 installed.
